Why Diabetes Research Institute?

Meet my Grandma!

My Grandma has been living with Type 1 Diabetes for over 68 years. My Grandpa has been taking care of her since her very first Diabetic episode. He was about to take her on their second date when he found out that she was in the hospital. The doctor asked him if he was her husband and he said, "No, but I'm going to be!" From that moment on, my Grandpa promised he would always take care of her. And he has!

I first learned about Disney's Princess Half Marathon in 2010. As I planned and dreamed of running it, I knew that when I finally signed up, that I would be running for my Grandma and Diabetes Research Institute. I didn't know the Tinker Bell Half Marathon would be my first, I always thought it would be the Princess. But I'm glad I'm running the Princess as a "veteran", because I just can't let Grandma down!

She graciously put on a tiara for me so that I could take a picture of her to put on my shirt! I am using the old fashion "iron on transfer" to add her picture to whatever shirt they give me.... or whatever shirt I end up buying! I also have a Diabetes Research Institute pin to put near her picture.

Although I love the beneficiaries Disney picks for their marathons and am glad to support them with my registration expenses, I enjoy raising money for causes that are dear to me. It makes me more motivated and driven knowing I'm running for something besides a beautiful tiara medal. If I don't get a medal, then neither does Grandma. We just CAN'T have that!

Thank you in advance for wanting to make a donate. You are helping me support not only Disney's beneficiaries, but my own. So when you click that donate button, just picture my Grandma in her beautiful tiara and how excited she will be to get her Princess Half Marathon honorary medal. And hopefully, we can help someone else's Grandma live as long as mine with Diabetes Research Institute.

I feel so thankful and blessed to have family and friends support me in this journey! A shout out to those who have already donated:
Aunt Bonnie, Heather, Steven, Danielle, Becky, and Laura!

*Update: If you are having trouble making a donation from your mobile device, switch to webview. The donation button is not visible in mobile view mode. If you're unsure how to change it on your phone, a regular computer/laptop will bring it up. Thanks!
